1950 Sask Model Plane Contest

Description: Trophy from the 1950 Sask Model Plane Contest
I received the following email. please help if you have any information!
My name is Darcy Gunnlaugson. My father Gunnar Gunnlaugson (North Battleford at that time)  won a trophy for his plane at the 1950 Model Plane Competition in Saskatoon. He was 23 at the time. The trophy is small but heavy, a copper figure of a caped man holding a plane above his head.  It's on a base with an engraved plaque which simply says 1950 Model Airplane Competition. Do you have any history of the event? All we have is one photo of him holding the trophy and no other  information other than he went to Saskatoon at that time to compete.
