U of S Aero Design Team Flight Day & BBQ.
Sunday, Oct-6th.
10:30am to 1:00pm
This will be the 3rd year that the University of Saskatchewan Aero Design Team will be at Richardt Field.
They are building an aircraft to and plan to test fly their prototype. (Test flight will be by an HCRCC & MAAC member.)
-Team size: About 20 members, many of which are brand new to the team and to RC aircraft.
-Competition: The SAE Aero Design Competition has traditionally been a heavy lifting competition. The focus this year is for teams to develop a bush plane that can take off with short runways and carry oversized cargo (soccer balls this year). The planes are completely design and fabricated by the students. Scoring is mostly based on flight performance (payload carried) and a technical report where we have to justify the design decision we made. It's a great opportunity to apply the principles learned in the classroom to a real-life design problem.
-Location of Competition: This year the competition is in Lakeland, Florida. Competing against other schools from all over North America, some from South America, Asia, and Europe.
The HCRCC will be on hand to facilitate this, talk about RC Aircraft, and provide discovery flights with trainer aircraft and buddy boxes.
The U of S Aero Design Team will also provide some BBQ burgers around noon.
Note this will run concurrently with our regularly scheduled Pilot Training which runs 10am till 12noon
